R.I.P. Mike Manley. Founding Member, Ayr Hospital Radio

It is with deep sadness that Ayr Hospital Radio shares the news of the passing of our founding member, Mike Manley. Alongside his beloved wife Ann, Mike brought together a love of music, entertainment, and an unwavering commitment to community service, values that gave birth to Ayr Hospital Radio.

Over the years, Mike and Ann poured their hearts into building the charity from the ground up, laying the foundations for what it has become today. Without Mike’s passion, dedication, and tireless work, Ayr Hospital Radio simply wouldn’t exist.
In recent years, Mike stepped back from active involvement to focus on his health and family, but the station was never far from his thoughts. His legacy continued to echo through every broadcast, every volunteer, and every song played.

On a personal note, Mike was more than a founder, chairperson, and honorary member, he was a dear friend to me and my family. He always asked after my wife and kids, and his love for family, his own and those close to him, was truly boundless. We spent countless hours chatting about radio, football, music, and his greatest musical passion: Frank Sinatra. Our evenings together, filled with laughter, stories, and the occasional beer, were unforgettable. I especially cherished his tales of the “good old days.”

Mike’s love for Sinatra was legendary. He never left the studio until one of Ol’ Blue Eyes’ hits had been played. If the people of Ayrshire didn’t know who Frank Sinatra was before tuning in, they certainly did by the time the show ended!

Charismatic, full of life, and blessed with a brilliant sense of humour, Mike was a “weel-kent face” around these shores. I know I speak for everyone who knew him, whether professionally or personally, when I say he will be deeply missed in the corridors of Ayr Hospital and far beyond.

Rest easy, Mike. Me auld pal.
